P.E.

First Semester

Our Physical Education classroom starts from the beginning by having students understand the rules and expectations of the coaches and the gym. During the first two weeks of school, we are focused on getting students comfortable again with the school environment and their peers. We make things a little easier by having our students do Ice Breaker games where they will choose a partner(not just their friends) and introduce themselves and tell each other something about them, whether it be what they did during the summer, favorite color, favorite food, etc.
During the next 3-4 weeks we begin our gymnastics sessions. Here we work on specific body movements that deal with locomotor and non-locomotor skills. We also work with students on specific body movements that consist with balance of the body in different positions, traveling in fast and slower pace (floor routines, jumping and how to land correctly, as well as body control on the beam and rock wall. During this time we will also be having after school gymnastics from 3:35pm to 4:35pm, this will extend beyond the 3-4 weeks and go into October and November.
During the next 3-4 weeks of school we will be working with our students on Football skills and techniques. Students will learn how to grip a ball, learn the proper way to set up and throw the ball, catch the ball, and run with the ball in different directions. We will also be holding after school football where we will go deeper into the sport and have flag football games.(3:35-4:35)
The next program that we will work on is Basketball. Here we teach our student the basic necessities of the sports rules, expectations, and handling skills. Students will get an in depth look at how one dribbles, passes, shoots, and communicates with the game of basketball. We will also have an after school program that go further and be more demanding with the sport of basketball. (3:35-4:35)
At the end will have students work on their Fitness Gram, where will test their strength, endurance, flexibility, and speed.

Second Semester

During the first week back from Christmas break, we will go back over the rules and expectations with students to refresh their minds and get back on track.
During the next 3-4 weeks we will move into Soccer. Here will teach our students that basics of the game: dribbling the soccer ball, passing the soccer ball, kicking the soccer ball, and shooting the soccer ball, as well as, how to communicate with their teammates on the soccer field. We explain the rules and expectations that come with the game of Soccer. We will also be having after school sports that will go more in depth with the game of Soccer. (3:35-4:35)
During the next 3-4 weeks we will begin working with our students on the game of Volleyball. Here we will teach our students how to properly position themselves on the court, how to serve the ball, how to dig the ball, and how to set the ball. Students will also be able to attend after school sports to get more game like situations for the game of Volleyball. (3:35-4:35)
During the next 3-4 weeks we will begin working with our students on the game of Softball and Baseball. Here will teach our students the basic needs of the sport by correctly throwing, catching, and fielding the ball. Once the defensive side of the sport is learned, we will move into hitting and the proper stance to do so. We will have after school sports during this same time schedule for the game of Baseball for students to get more in depth practice at the sport. (3:35-4:35)
During the final 3-4 weeks we will begin our Track and Field and working with students on the rules and expectations of the sport. This is a very important lesson due to we will use this during our field day competitions. Students will get an in depth look at what track and field consists of, the proper running techniques, jumping techniques, throwing techniques, and baton handing techniques. They will also learn to communicate during team races. We will also be holding after school sports to help those students that are serious about getting into track and field to perfect their techniques and skills for the next level. (3:35-4:35)
Students will also be given choice weeks throughout semester, where they will get to choose a sport or sports that they want to do for the week. Here is where we give our students some ownership of themselves and the class. We will take a vote each time and the majority wins.
